At the time, the church was still a temporary structure, but in 1878, a full-scale brick cathedral was built, and it became the center of the Catholic Church in Tokyo. In 1927, the present Greek-style wooden and mortar cathedral was completed, and in 1999, it was designated as a historical landmark by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government. The bell, which was cast in Rennes, France in 1876 and sent to Tsukiji Church, can still be seen on the grounds.
