Since then, the temple prospered as a family temple of various feudal lords in Edo, but in 1859, it became the site of two attacks on the British Minister&#8217;s lodgings, and it suffered a brief period of disadvantage. Today, the Okushoin, Bakugen-tei, and backyard are designated as a National Historic Site (not open to the public) as the only surviving foreign legation building from the end of the Edo period.
