In 1923, after the Great Kanto Earthquake, Zenshiro Yasuda, the son-in-law of Zenjiro Yasuda, the founder of the former Yasuda Zaibatsu, purchased the house, and his eldest son, Kusuo, inherited it in 1937. Although built in the Japanese style, the interior is characterized by a blend of Japanese and Western styles, including a Western-style reception room. Except for the kitchen, the rest of the house remains almost as it was when it was built, and furniture used by the Fujita and Yasuda families can be seen. Another highlight is the garden, which was created with an emphasis on the view from inside the residence.

Spot OutlineOutline

address (e.g. of house)

5-20-18 Sendagi, Bunkyo-ku, Tokyo

Access

Approximately 7 minutes walk from Sendagi Subway Station

phone

03-3822-2699

Business Hours

Wednesday and Saturday 10:30-16:00

regular closing day

Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, Sunday, closed in summer and winter

External Links

Official Web Site

completion of construction

1918 (Taisho 8)

constructionUeno, Yanaka, Nippori Former Kusuo Yasuda Residence Garden (Sendagi, Tokyo)（Former Yasuda Residence) a blending of Japanese and Western stylesYasuda Zaibatsugarden This mansion with garden was built around 1919 (Taisho 8) by businessman Fujita Kozaburo, the founder of Toshimaen, an amusement park that regrettably closed in 2020.
