The drastic social changes of the Showa period were no exception, and had a major impact on women&#8217;s clothing in particular, from Japanese-style to Western-style clothing and from home sewing to ready-to-wear clothing.<\/p>\n<p>When the Sino-Japanese War broke out, the government&#8217;s campaign to mobilize the national psyche and the shortage of supplies led to restrictions on clothing as well. Even after the war ended, women could not afford to enjoy dressing up due to the severe shortage of goods.
