In 1878, a sign was erected at the site as &#8220;the birthplace of the railroad in Japan,&#8221; marking the start of the railroad 0 leagues away. It is located southeast of the current JR Shimbashi Station, on the site of the former Shiodome freight station of the former Japanese National Railways, and part of the rails and platform from the time of its opening still remain.
