It is known as a local confectionery of Kochi Prefecture. It is also called sweet potato karinto. According to a legend, sweet potatoes were brought to Tosa from Satsuma by Gobei Koyagi, a samurai of the Tosa domain, in 1705, which is said to be the origin of imokenpi.
