It is one of the customs held nationwide, centering on the Awashima Shrine in Wakayama Prefecture and the halls dedicated to the deity Awashima. Awashima-do is also located in the precincts of Sensoji Temple, and it is said that needle offering events were also held at Sensoji Temple due to the influence of &#8220;Awashima Ganjin&#8221; who preached the merits of Awashima Myojin in the Edo period.<\/p>\n<p>On the day of the event, people engaged in needlework stick needles into the tofu set up in the precincts of Awashima-do to pray for the safety and progress of their needlework, and also to make offerings of needles and offer prayers of thanksgiving.
