\n This is the site of the house where the great writer Soseki Natsume lived for three years from 1903 after his return from England. Soseki’s first novel, “I am a Cat,” was written here, and since it was also the setting for his works, the house became familiarly known as the “Cat’s House. Soseki also wrote “Botchan” and “Kusamakura” here, and established himself as a writer. The house is now the Nippon Medical School Alumni Hall, and a monument with Yasunari Kawabata’s calligraphy and statues of two cats can be seen there. The house has been moved to Meiji-Mura in Inuyama City, Aichi Prefecture, and is now open to the public.<\/p>\n
