The seven herbs &#8211; Japanese parsley, nazuna, gogogyo, hakobera, hottoke-zasa, suzuna, and suzushiro &#8211; are all nutritious and are said to ward off evil spirits because they bloom in early spring.<\/p>\n<p>Every year, Mukojima Hyakkaen makes &#8220;Nanakusa Baskets&#8221; by planting the seven spring flowers in baskets, which are also presented to the Imperial Family.
