Tracing the History of Buddhist Beliefs<\/h2>\n<p>\nConcerned about the situation in which Buddhist statues and paintings were being discarded as a result of the abandonment of Buddhism in the early Meiji period, the industrialist Kihachiro Okura, who established the Okura Shukokan, devoted himself to the protection of these cultural assets. He collected many masterpieces of Buddhist paintings and statues produced in the medieval and early modern periods, including those produced by the Shakyamuni faith, esoteric Buddhism, and Pure Land Buddhism. This exhibition traces the history of Buddhist beliefs through the Buddhist art in the collection.<br \/>\nIn particular, the National Treasure &#8220;Fugen Bosatsu Rider,&#8221; known as one of the most famous works in the collection, will be on special display.
