Founded in Kan’ei 2 (1625) at Yagenbori in Ryogoku, Edo (now Higashi-Nihonbashi 1-chome).The first owner, Tokuemon, took inspiration from herbal medicine, created shichimi chili, and began selling it.The moderate spiciness and aroma captivated Edo residents, and its popularity spread nationwide.Yagenbori\u2019s logo includes the character \u201cToku,\u201d because Tokugawa Iemitsu, the third shogun, loved their shichimi chili and gave the \u201cToku\u201d character from the Tokugawa name.<\/p>\n\n
