polearm(nagamaki)

Japanese sword

A sword with a blade 3 shaku (approx. 90 cm) long and a handle as long as 3 shaku (approx. 90 cm) or 4 shaku (approx. 120 cm) long, with a long leather or braided string around the entire handle and a sword guard. The name is said to be an abbreviation of “nagamaki no tachi” (long rolled sword). Easier to handle than the big sword, it could be used in a variety of ways, such as swinging, reaping, and thrusting, and was widely used in the Warring States period as a powerful weapon.
