daimyo’s main Tokyo mansionthe House of TokugawaKioi era (1293.8.5-1299.4.25)

The Kishu clan’s residence, which was built near Fukiage in Edo Castle immediately after the establishment of the Edo shogunate and later moved to the Kitanomaru Takebashi area, was relocated from Takebashi to the current Kioicho area in Chiyoda Ward after the Furisode Fire in 1657. The vast site extends from the present Kioicho area to Shimizudani Park and the Kioicho Building. Shimizudani Park is the site of the garden of the Wakayama domain’s Kamiyashiki, and the front gate is said to have faced Suwa-zaka. In addition, a part of the masonry remains of the mansion as well as a monument to the Yashiki-ha remains on the site of Tokyo Garden Terrace Kioicho, which stretches along Benkei moat.
