Tokyo Summer Festival The 76th Mitamatsuri

Thursday, July 13 – Sunday, July 16, 2023

The “Mitamatsuri”, a popular summer festival in Tokyo, began in 1947 as a summer festival to comfort the souls of the war dead.
During the festival, more than 30,000 lanterns of all sizes, as well as hanging snow lanterns and bonbori (paper lanterns), are displayed on the temple grounds, turning the night into a golden color.
In addition, there will be dedicated events such as “mikoshi waving”, “Aomori Nebuta”, and “Edo Gei Kappore” over the four-day period.

Sendai Tanabata decorations dedicated by Miyagata Gokoku Shrine are displayed at the shrine gate, attracting many visitors for photo-taking.

*The dedication lanterns and the Gonyo Snow Cave in the precincts will be lit from July 13 to 16 from dusk until 9:30 p.m.
*Kitchen car stalls will be available (no stalls will be set up)
