paper knot(bunkomusubi)

Japanese clothesclothing

This is a type of butterfly knot, a way of tying the obi for samurai women that has been used since the Edo period. In modern times, it is widely used for tying an obi under the uchikake of a bridal gown, or from furisode (long-sleeved kimono) to yukata (summer kimono). It can also be arranged in various ways, such as the katabunko, in which the end of the obi is placed over the knot, and the chobunko, in which several feathers are stacked on top of each other. A box used to store books and letters is called a bunko, and the name comes from the square shape of the tied obi, which looks like a small box.
