well-established(shinise)
It refers to a traditional and prestigious store that has kept up the business of its ancestors for generations. It has a long history and is trusted by customers and business partners. Long-established businesses are often defined as companies that have been in business for 100 years or more; according to a survey conducted by Teikoku Databank in 2019, there are approximately 33,000 long-established businesses in Japan. The origin of the word “long-established” is said to be “shi-simasu,” meaning “to do things in a similar manner, to imitate,” or “to carry on the family business of one’s ancestors.” The word changed to “shise,” and the Chinese character “sei-ho” was applied to the word to refer to an old store.
