A grand parade of portable shrines against a backdrop of glamorous buildings
The Akasaka Hikawa Festival, a festival of the Akasaka Hikawa Shrine, will be held from September 15 for the first time in three years. This year’s festival is scheduled for four days from Thursday, September 15 to Sunday, September 18.
During the Yoimiya procession on Friday the 16th, the Hikawa float “Ooninitate” will be paraded in the evening. It will be illuminated against the backdrop of the gorgeous office buildings in Akasaka, just like an Edo-style festival picture scroll.
On Sunday the 18th, the “Shinko Matsuri” will be led by a procession of Shinto shrines, and a large, eight-meter, three-tiered float, “Nippon Buson” and “Oninin Tachi” will make a grand parade through the Akasaka and Roppongi areas. To prevent the spread of the new coronavirus infection, the portable shrine will be carried on a special cart instead of being carried aloud. On the 17th (Sat.) and 18th (Sun.), there will be a Bon Odori dance and stalls in the grounds of the shrine.
