Kagurazaka Machibutai, Oedo Meguri 2022

Holding period

2022.05.21 〜 2022.05.22

The whole town becomes a venue for live performances. Traditional performing arts such as shamisen, gagaku, and musical instruments are performed.

Numerous narrow alleys stretch around Kagurazaka-dori. A little further in, you will find elegant stone pavement, making Kagurazaka an enjoyable place to stroll. The “Kagurazaka Machibutai Oedo Meguri 2022” will bring together up-and-coming young and established artists of traditional performing arts in Kagurazaka, including Bishamonten Zenkokuji Temple and Akagi Shrine. This is a meaningful event that brings traditional performing arts handed down from generation to generation to the present through live performances. The event will feature a variety of performances by Kagurazaka geisha, dances and songs, traditional storytelling (by Oine Kanda and others) and ronikyoku (by Nanafuku Tamagawa and others), and music on traditional instruments such as Tsugaru shamisen, koto, biwa, and shakuhachi (by Yutaka Koyama, Shintaro Okamura, and others). The final event of the festival will be the “Dusk Live. As in last year’s event, the Toba-ya Riyu group of long-note shamisen players and Harumi Mochizuki group of traditional Japanese music perform famous pieces from Kabuki and Nihon buyo (traditional Japanese dance).
