showy collar(Dateeri)

Japanese clothesclothing

A collar to give the appearance of wearing two layers of kimono. It is 1.2 meters long and about 11 cm wide. Before the Taisho era (1912-1926), it was customary to wear two or more layers of kimono as part of formal dress, and it came to be used as a remnant of this custom. Today, it is used for ceremonial dress and festive occasions, to raise the level of the kimono and to add glamour. It can be matched with colored tomesode, visiting kimono, tsukebake, colorless kimono, furisode, and komon. There are no specific rules for color, but vivid colors are often used, and using it between a kimono and a white han-nappa collar creates a sense of dignity and luxury around the neck.
