Ruins of Kira Residence (Honjo Matsuzaka-cho Park)(Kira Residence Site (Honjo-matsuzakacho Park)

(public) parkperformance or narrative based on the story of Loyalty to the EmperorAko Roshi

This is the site of the residence of Kira Uenosuke, who was killed on December 14, 1703, when the Ako Roushi warriors decided to take revenge on Asano Ueshogun Naganori, and over 20 people including Kira Yoshitaka were killed. Incidentally, Kira Uenosuke actually lived here for less than a year and a half. The mansion was quite large, but now it is a 100-square-meter Honjo Matsuzaka-cho Park. In the park, there is “Kira’s Head Washing Well,” and the inner wall of the fence is inlaid with copper plates showing a schematic of Kira’s residence and pictures related to the Yoshinaga warriors, making it a must-see for history buffs. Every year on December 14, the day the Yoshinishi were killed, a Gishi Festival is held by the local Gishi Association, and on the afternoon of the same day, the Kira Festival is also held in grand style. The site is also designated as a historic site by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government.
