large sword(ODACHI/ODACHI)

Japanese sword

Among tachi swords, this term refers to those with blades longer than 3 shaku (about 90 cm). The two largest existing large swords are the “Shida Otachi,” which is dedicated to the Yahiko Shrine in Niigata Prefecture, and the “Nenekirimaru” of the Nikko-Futarayama Shrine in Tochigi Prefecture. Both swords are over 200 cm long.
The large daggers used as weapons on the battlefield are called nodachi. Since the ownership of nodachi was restricted to those of high rank, they were carried on the back or carried by a follower when used on the battlefield.
