Why do we need Bonbori? Decorating Hina Dolls(bonbori)

Dolls’ Festivalpeach festival

One of the ornamental tools for Hina dolls. A candlestick with a long handle is covered with a frame made of wood or bamboo and covered with Japanese paper or silk. It is what we now call a lighting fixture, and is placed on either side of the doll. In the old days, weddings were often held at night, and the light of the bonbori was indispensable, so it was incorporated into the decoration tools. Some of the more recent bonbori have light bulbs inside so that they can actually be lit.
