Entrust your wishes to the dolls and float them down the Sumida River.

Nagashibina” is a traditional Japanese event in which children’s misfortunes are entrusted to dolls made of paper or plants and floated down to the river or the sea to purify them and wish them good health and good fortune. This event has a long history, dating back to the middle of the Heian period (794-1192), about 1,000 years ago. In this event, 1,500 people from the general public are invited to make their wishes on dolls and float them down the Sumida River around the Azumabashi Water Terrace of the Sumida River. To participate in the event, applicants must apply by return postcard and be selected by lottery. Winners will be sent invitations to the event and will receive dolls in exchange for the invitations on the day of the event. Those who did not win the lottery can purchase Nagashi Hina at the venue on the day of the event (800 yen per piece) to experience the event. Reservations are not required just to observe the event, so feel free to visit.
