New Year’s hawk hunting viewing and green tea at the Daimyo Garden

Hama Rikyu Gardens will open on January 2, 2023, with a variety of events appropriate for the New Year. A must-see is the traditional art of falconry, “hoyojutsu,” or the art of releasing a falcon. The event will be held twice on January 2 and 3, at 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. (about 60 minutes each time). You can see hawks flying dynamically from the rooftop of a nearby building.

In addition, visitors can try their hand at traditional New Year’s games such as Hanezuki and Dokugumawashi at the outdoor table plaza (10:00~15:30) and purchase matcha tea and Japanese sweets at the Nakajima teahouse (9:00~16:45, last order 16:30). Snacks such as Tokyo yakimochi (soy sauce and walnut miso), manju, and dorayaki will also be available at Uchibori Plaza.
