Exhibition explores the relationship between ukiyoe artist Katsushika Hokusai and his rivals

The Ota Memorial Museum of Art, located in Harajuku, is one of Japan’s leading museums specializing in ukiyo-e prints. The museum houses a collection of about 15,000 works, including representative works by popular artists such as Katsushika Hokusai, Utagawa Hiroshige, and Utagawa Kuniyoshi.
Here, “Hokusai and His Rivals” will be held from April 22 to June 26, 2022. Katsushika Hokusai, a world-renowned ukiyoe artist, produced works in various genres, including his famous landscape “Fugaku Sanjurokkei” (Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji), and competed with other painters in the art world. This exhibition explores the relationship between Hokusai and his rivals of the time.
