Annual “Shibare Jizoson” rope-unraveling memorial service
Nanzoin Temple in Narihira Shrine, which is famous for the execution of the great Eomachi magistrate, Narihira, is six hundred years old. The temple is associated with the Narihira Zaihara clan, and the Shibare Jizo is enshrined within its precincts. It is said that if you tie the Shibare Jizo with a rope and make a wish, your wish will come true. Once a year, on New Year’s Eve, the rope is untied and a rope-untying service is held.
