Sanbancho Common Council Office (former Aritomo Yamagata Residence garden site and annex) open to the public

Holding period

2022.11.26 〜 2022.11.27

The garden and conference center, which retain the atmosphere of the Meiji era, are open to the public.

The Sanbancho Common Council Hall is located on the site of a residence built in 1885 by Aritomo Yamagata, the third and ninth Prime Minister of Japan, but the building from that time was destroyed by the Great Kanto Earthquake in 1923 and air raids in 1945. However, a Japanese garden with a Meiji atmosphere and a monument (erected by Aritomo Yamagata) commemorating the Emperor’s visit (October 1885) still remain.

The annex, designed by architect Hiroshi Oe, who designed the National Noh Theatre and is known for his architectural design that combines modernism and traditional Japanese style, will also be open to the public.
There will also be a talk event that can only be heard here and a tea experience.
All visits are free of charge, including guided tours, talk events, and Japanese culture experiences.
