Pray for good health and safety by going through a cogon grass ring

The “Great Purification” is held at Kameido Tenjinja Shrine. In this event, people pray for good health and safety as they walk through a thatched straw ring and purify themselves by transferring impurities from their bodies to dolls.
It is held twice a year, in June and December, and the June event is called “Nagoshi-no-harae. At Kameido Tenjinja Shrine, the Natsukoshi Purification is held on June 25 every year, and many visitors come to purify themselves of the sins and impurities they have committed in the six months since the New Year by walking through a 3 meter diameter thatched ring. The main point is to pass through the thatched ring, which is about 3 meters in diameter, three times: left, right, and left.
