A bean snack shop with its main store in Azabu-Juban, Tokyo. It offers about 50 types of bean snacks and about 25 types of okaki.The bean snacks use high-quality peanuts, soybeans, broad beans, peas, almonds, and more, and have been loved for over 150 years since the Edo period thanks to a traditional method that preserves the original flavor of the beans.Among many bean snacks, the most popular is “Otoboke Mame,” which offers three sea flavors—shrimp, shredded seaweed, and aonori.Customers can also combine their favorite bean snacks to create an original gift set.At the Azabu-Juban main store, “salt okaki” made with Kogane-mochi rice from Uonuma, Niigata, is fried and sold on-site, attracting many customers who visit specifically for the freshly fried taste—this is also a popular item.

History

Founded in the first year of the Keio era (1865) by Genbei Surugaya.Genbei was said to walk around selling roasted beans from a shoulder-carrying basket or wagon, warmly known as “Mame-ya no Genbei-san” (Bean seller Genbei).In the early days, the business mainly sold roasted beans, but later began making rice crackers and bean snacks as well.
