The three-color dango, loved since the Edo period, is perfect as a gift.

A dango shop that has continued for six generations along the Sumida River.They offer only two products: “Kototoi Dango” and “Kototoi Monaka (Miyako-dori shaped monaka).”“Kototoi Dango,” also the shop’s name, is notable for its perfectly round shape without skewers.The red-bean “Azuki filling” uses Fujimurasaki azuki from Tokachi, Hokkaido.The white “Shiro-an filling” is made from tebou beans, a type of kidney bean.The yellow “Miso filling,” made from a blend of white and red miso, completes the set of three.「“Kototoi Monaka” is shaped after the Miyako-dori bird from a poem by Ariwara no Narihira.It comes in azuki or white filling, and its cute bird shape makes it great as a souvenir.You can eat inside the shop and enjoy freshly made Kototoi Dango or monaka with tea.One area also features a display showing the shop’s history.

History

Founded in the late Edo period.The founder, Sakichi Toyama, who ran a gardening business, served dango to entertain guests.Its delicious taste became well-known, leading to the creation of a dango shop.The name “Kototoi Dango” is said to come from a poem by Ariwara no Narihira during his travels in eastern Japan.Writers and cultural figures have long visited the shop, and it remains a beloved specialty of Mukojima.

A monaka shaped like the Miyako-dori bird.You can choose between azuki filling and white filling.The filling is added after ordering, so the shell stays crispy!The smooth filling has a refined sweetness that makes you want to eat more and more.
