The Mid-Autumn Festival is a traditional harvest festival in Asia, and is as important as the Chinese New Year (Spring Festival). It is a holiday in many areas, where people decorate lanterns, give thanks to their ancestors, celebrate a bountiful harvest, and share delicious mooncakes. The young and the young-at-heart sing, dance, and celebrate their youth, and those who are not so young and energetic enjoy drinking and having a good time together.
The “Wenode. Panda Mid-Autumn Festival Executive Committee (Ueno Chuo-dori Merchants Association/China TV)” will hold “Wenode. Panda Mid-Autumn Festival 2023” will be held at the Ueno Onshi Park Fountain Plaza from September 22 (Fri.) to September 24 (Sun.), 2023. We will celebrate the happiness of all visitors to Ueno with authentic food, culture, and people’s interaction that can only be enjoyed during Asia’s eternal “Mid-Autumn Festival,” with hospitality unique to Ueno. We look forward to welcoming you with special menus from “50 restaurants” including food stalls from all over Japan, real gachi Chinese cuisine from all over China to Vietnamese cuisine, and enthusiastic performances by over 500 people in 60 groups over the three days.
Following the highly successful “Ueno De. Beer Festa” in August, this year’s event will be the second in the series. Beer Festa” in August, the staff will wear event T-shirts redesigned by GripGrap, LLC, which operates the social design brand NODD, in cooperation with the Taito City Council of Social Welfare and featuring artwork created by users at six facilities for people with disabilities in the ward. Event T-shirts will also be sold at the event, and a portion of the proceeds will be donated to the respective facilities. This is a new initiative to promote the event and have fun while also contributing to society.

■Saturday, September 23, at Ueno Shinobazunoike Water Music Hall (5 min. walk from Fountain Square), visitors to Ueno and the rest of the world can sit back and enjoy performances on the theme of Japanese culture and an idol battle for the right to participate in next year’s Chinese New Year Festival at the renovated Ueno Water Music Hall.

■An authentic Chinese lion dance demonstration: On September 22 (Fri.) from 12:00 p.m., the Kobe Huaqiao Foso-kai Lion Dance Team, gold medal winners in the “2020 Lion Legacy Cup,” will come to the opening ceremony.

■The symbol of Wenode Panda, Bamboo Project Japan’s panda, will be back!
Bamboo art, which was very popular in China and sent Shanshan off to China for the Chinese New Year, will come back to the venue. A spectacular space woven from the supple curves of bamboo and vivid light will create a home for pandas in Ueno Park Fountain Square.
