Takabari and Bonbori lighting this year! Cherry blossom viewing at Ueno Park

Ueno Park has been famous for its cherry blossoms since the Edo period. It is one of the “100 Best Cherry Blossom Spots in Japan,” and with approximately 800 cherry trees in the area, it is the most popular cherry blossom spot in Tokyo, visited by hundreds of thousands of people per day and broadcast on television.

At night, bonbori (paper lanterns) and tall lanterns are lit to create a fantastic night view of the cherry blossoms (lighting hours: 17:00 – 20:00). The well-known antique market, Nikko Gundan’s monkey show, flower and grass market (Friday, March 17 through Tuesday, April 4), and festival music and Kotobuki Shishi (Sunday, March 26) will also be held in a lively atmosphere.
The Cherry Blossom Festa will be held from Friday, March 24 to Sunday, March 26, and the Tohoku Kizuna Festival will participate for the first time. Also this year, the cherry blossoms along the roadside between the Ueno Park Boat Pond and Shinobazu Pond will be lit up (March 11 (Sat.) – April 16 (Sun.), lighting hours from 5pm to 10pm).
