long sword(Tachi)

Japanese sword

A general term for a long, large sword. It refers to a sword with a blade length of approximately 80 cm that is suspended from the waist using a string or leather strap called a tachi-o. A long, large sword suspended at the waist with the blade pointing downward. The sword is called “Katana” in contrast to “Katana,” which is a short, small sword with the blade pointing upward and attached to the belt. Originally, until around the middle of the Heian period (794-1185), it was called a “large sword” (大剣). The term “daito” was originally used to distinguish swords with straight blades (swords with no warp) until around the middle of the Heian period and “tachi” for swords with warped blades after that time.
