Tamura Sake Brewery began brewing sake in 1822, and in 2022 will celebrate its 200th anniversary as a well-established company that follows an enterprising spirit while preserving tradition. The company produces and sells high quality sake while balancing costs. The “Maboroshi no Sake Kaisen” series, Tamura Sake Brewery’s flagship product, is named after the site where the water was found to be suitable for sake brewing. Kasen’s signature brand, “Special Honjozo Genjo-no-shu,” has a full-bodied taste with a subdued aroma that one never gets tired of.
In addition to “Kaisen,” the company also sells products that allow customers to enjoy the taste of selected rice from various regions of Japan, such as “Kaneju Tamura,” as well as mellow-flavored products such as “Tokyo Wazou,” which is “MADE IN TOKYO. The online store is well-stocked and easy to purchase.
Usually, reservations are required for brewery tours, but on the day of the Fussa Brewery Opening, reservations are not required and there are no restrictions on admission.

History

In 1822, the 9th head of the Tamura family, Kanjiro, started a sake brewing business, giving birth to the Tamura Brewery, which continues to this day. The Tamura Sake Brewery expanded its sales network by establishing a consistent sales system through in-store relationships with neighboring sake brewers and liquor stores.
Kaisen, Tamura Brewery’s flagship product, was created in 1973 by the 15th generation of Tamura Hanjuro, and has been a best-selling product loved by customers to this day.

Special Honjozo Genjozo

2,310 yen (1.8 liter)

This is a special honjozo sake made from rice polished to 60%. It is a very attractive sake with a strong mouthfeel and a good aftertaste. It is suitable for both hot and cold drinking, and its flavor can be enjoyed at different temperatures. Its strong umami flavor makes it a good sake for yakitori (grilled chicken) and chocolate.

This junmai ginjo-shu is brewed with highly polished Iwate Prefecture sake rice, Ginga, to 55%, and bottle heating is used. This sake has a fruity aroma and deep lingering flavor, and is recommended to be drunk chilled. It goes well with Japanese dishes such as grilled fish and potato salad.

Special Junmai Tokyo Wajo

1,650 yen (720ml)

This special junmai sake has a mellow flavor. It is heated in a bottle to preserve the original flavor, and its slightly dry taste makes it suitable as a mid-meal drink. It is recommended to drink it at room temperature, and goes well with simmered sea bream and fried food. It goes well not only with Japanese food but also with Western food, and its package, which features gorgeous cherry blossoms and an image of the Tokyo cityscape, makes it an ideal souvenir to take overseas or to the countryside.

Limited to groups of 1 to 5 participants.
The maximum number of participants is 15. Can attend on the dates specified (1-2 Saturdays per month) from 14:00.
1-5 persons per group, advance reservations through company website; registration will be closed when capacity is reached.
Group Brewery Tours
A tour of the brewery can be reserved when the number of participants is 10 or more.
The maximum number of students is 15. Preferred date and time can be specified.
Limited to one group per day. Some days may be closed (Sunday/Monday/public holidays) or may not be available due to the brewery’s schedule.
