Holding period

2023.01.02 〜 2023.01.03

Special opening of the former Iwasaki residence garden built in the Meiji era

The Former Iwasaki Residence Garden, a Meiji-era residence built more than 125 years ago, will have a special opening on January 2-3, 2023. The Western-style and Japanese-style buildings in the garden will display fresh flowers to celebrate the New Year and “kinkarakami” wallpaper, which is a reproduction of the kinkarakami technique used in Europe to make animal hides, using Japanese paper.

In the area next to the garden counter, there will be a space where visitors can write their New Year’s resolutions, dreams, and wishes on original wishing cards of the former Iwasaki residence and hang them in a booth. In the Japanese-style building, visitors can enjoy a set of matcha green tea and Japanese sweets (850 yen). In the Western-style building, visitors can enjoy traditional children’s games such as Dokugumawashi (spinning the top of a Japanese spinning top) and ring tossing around the Kurumawashi.
