770 artworks and 1,300 handmade art ema (votive picture tabletops) will be displayed in downtown Fukagawa, Tokyo.

Art Para Fukagawa, now in its fourth year, will display approximately 550 artworks in the city, including replicas of selected works from the past three years. The Tomioka Hachimangu Shrine will display more than 1,300 ema (votive picture tablet) painted by users and families of facilities for the physically challenged in Koto City. The Fukagawa area in downtown Tokyo will be decorated with art in this autumn season of art.

Mr. Junko Koshino will participate in the opening ceremony on October 14 (Sat.) from 1:00 p.m.
The opening ceremony will be held at the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo, a sacred place for contemporary art, from 1:00 p.m. on October 14 (Sat), the first day of the festival. 60 artists and their families will be in attendance, as well as Junko Koshino, the festival’s special advisor since its inaugural year (2020), and Yayoi Kimura, the first female mayor of Koto City. More than 1,300 art ema (votive picture horses), freely drawn by children with disabilities and people attending welfare facilities in Koto-ku with their own feelings, will be displayed at Tomioka Hachiman Shrine. At the center of the ema board decorated with colorful ema is “Everyone’s Art Ema Mikoshi” on display. Please take a look at the art ema drawn by the “little artists” who have become the symbol of the Art Para Fukagawa Chatty Art Festival.

Art Para Fukagawa not only shines a light on artists through its nationwide open call exhibitions, but also engages in activities to develop their potential. One such activity is the Art Para Market Fair (AMF). With the aim of creating a market for artists with disabilities, the AMF holds solo exhibitions of artists who have won prizes in open competitions (some of which can be purchased online). Visitors can take their time to view the high quality original artwork of the winning artists. All proceeds from sales are returned to the artists.

◆TOPICS:Special Exhibition “Heart Objects
Taisho Kinenkan” in Kiyosumi Garden】 Children from four special-needs schools in Koto-ku created large heart objects with masking tape at their schools. In addition, small heart cards shaped like hearts with masking tape will be exhibited as individual works. Children in the ward are also invited to participate in the Art Festival in order to realize Artpara’s philosophy of “living together” in society.

Kiyosumi Shirakawa / Kiyosumi Garden] Art in the City will also be exhibited at the “Kaiyushiki Rinsen Teien” (Garden with a circular path through the forest), a place of scenic beauty in Tokyo. This is a collaborative exhibition of two beauties by a Japanese garden and an artist with disabilities.
■The beauty of Japanese gardens and paintings, along with soothing ambient music. Please enjoy the art environment “Shiba Holiday” with all five senses, and experience art by people with disabilities close at hand. The music is based on the theme of the Fukagawa area and is created by sound artist Sawako. The event is held only on Saturdays and Sundays.

The Morishita area “Norakuro-Do” is a shopping street with a downtown atmosphere located in Takahashi, Koto-ku. Flags and objets d’art are displayed in the area, which is associated with “Norakuro,” a pioneer character in Japanese manga. The pedestrian paradise is held every Sunday and national holidays, and on October 15 (Sun.) and 22 (Sun.), as a project to enliven the Art Festival, a variety of fun events and workshops will be held, including electric wheelchair test-rides, boccia (boccia), Lego workshops, and the sale of goods made at facilities for the physically challenged in the district. On the 15th (Sun.), the rock ‘n’ roll band “Salsa Gum Tape” will perform live. On the 22nd (Sun.), a rock ‘n’ roll band, “Salsa Gumtape,” will perform with a guitar and saxophone.
