Ome Daruma Market

Holding period

2023.01.12

Find your favorite Daruma doll from about 40 stalls.

Daruma doll market stands along the old Ome Kaido Road. About 40 stalls sell Daruma dolls. The “Tokyo Daruma (Tama Daruma)” sold at this market is characterized by the gold leaf around the eyes. It also has fewer whiskers than the famous Takasaki Daruma. Daruma dolls range in size from large enough to hold in one’s arms to small enough to fit in one hand, and come in a variety of colors, including blue, yellow, white, and pink. Daruma dolls are handmade by a Daruma shop, from the mold for the base, and the faces are all hand-drawn. The individuality of the craftsman’s skills shines through in this traditional handicraft. Each Daruma doll has a slightly different face, so you can find the one you like best. In addition to Daruma dolls, there will be many stalls selling food and drink.
In addition, old Daruma dolls will be burned at Sumiyoshi Shrine in Ome City.
