The event “Katazome: The Beauty of Japan” will be held at Bunka Gakuen Clothing Museum, which exhibits Japanese and Western costumes. The event’s title, “katazome,” refers to the use of paper or wooden patterns to express patterns on cloth, and has long been a part of the dyeing and weaving culture that has been nurtured in Japan. In this event, katazome garments such as komon, itajime, and kata-yuzen will be exhibited, categorized by period, ranging from exquisite indigo-dyed garments to gorgeous garments expressed using a variety of colors. Visitors can experience the depth of expression unique to katazome, such as the orderly arrangement of patterns and the gradation of tones created by repetition.
