Rare Kannon Bodhisattva built in the Muromachi period (1336-1573) is exhibited.

Kannon Bosatsu is said to change his “body” in various ways to save people in distress, depending on the person or situation, and his 33 appearances are known as the “33 manifestations. There are not many examples of sculptures of this type. The sculpture featured in this exhibition is one of the 33 statues, which is said to be formerly owned by Hoyoji Temple in Aizu. It is said to have been formerly owned by Hoyoji Temple in Aizu, and is inscribed “Bon-Ou,” indicating that it is a statue of Bon-no-Ushin.

Also on display will be the “Hiyoshi Sanno Juzenji Mandala” and the “Jingoji Sutra. The “Hiyoshi Sanno Juzenji Mandala” is unique among the Sanno mandalas in that it depicts ten Zen masters with the Honjibutsu and the Big Dipper at their center. The “Jingoji Sutra” is a decorative sutra with gold scriptures written in gold on dark blue paper, with a gold and silver glaze on the back.

Many other works of art are also on display, giving visitors a taste of Buddhist art that is somewhat rare, so please take a closer look.
