Exhibited works by “Uemura Shoen,” a master of beauty painting, and her eldest son.
The Yamatane Museum of Art has a collection of approximately 1,800 works of modern and contemporary Japanese painting, including old paintings, ukiyo-e prints, oil paintings, and six important cultural properties. From February 5 to April 17, 2022, the museum is holding a special exhibition featuring the works of Shoen Uemura, a female painter known as a master of beauty painting, and her eldest son, Shoko Uemura, who specialized in flower-and-bird painting. In addition to works by Shoko’s eldest son, Junno Uemura, the exhibition also features works by other painters of the same period. This is the first time that all 18 of Shoen’s representative works, including “Kinuta” and “Peony Snow,” and all 9 of Shoko’s works, including “White Peacock,” will be exhibited simultaneously.
