Holding period

Carp streamers swim in the sky over the Sumida River

The Sumida Carp Streamer Fair (Sumida Carp Streamer Fair㏌Sumida River Waterfront Terrace) will be held near the Shirahige Bridge on the Sumida River near Tsutsumidori 2-chome, Sumida-ku, Tokyo, around Children’s Day on May 5, when carp streamers of various sizes and colors will be displayed in the park. The event is organized by Sumida Cut Club, a volunteer group that has been planning, organizing, and managing community revitalization events along Sumitsutsumidori since the 1980s. (The event was originally held at Higashi-Shirahige Park, but due to the Tokyo Metropolitan Government’s self-restraint in Corona, the event could not be held there, so it has been held along the Sumida River since last year.)
Along the Sumida River is the historic Ishihama Shrine, which has been in existence for nearly 1,300 years. The teahouse on the shrine grounds, which was depicted in ukiyoe prints during the Edo period, will be reborn in 2020 as Ishihama Saryo Raku, an old private house cafe where you can take a breather. After feeling spring with carp streamers, take a break with tofu dengaku and dango.
