Sumizutsumi Cherry Blossom Festival

Holding period

2023.03.18 〜 2023.04.19

Mock stalls and lighting up! Hanami along the Sumida River

In the Edo period (1603-1867), the 8th shogun, Tokugawa Yoshimune, planted cherry trees along both banks of the Sumida River, and since then the area along the Sumida River has become one of the most beautiful cherry blossom viewing spots in Tokyo. The 1 km stretch from Azuma-bashi Bridge to Sakura-bashi Bridge is especially beautiful. You can photograph both the Tokyo Sky Tree (R) and the cherry blossoms.

The 2023 Sumizutsumi Sakura Festival will feature booths from local neighborhood associations, booths from the Sumida Ward Famous Goods Stalls Association, and more. A houseboat ride to view the cherry blossoms from the water is also recommended. The illuminated nighttime cherry blossoms are also worth seeing. The “Spring Soyokaze Connecting Fest” will be held at Sumida Park Soyokaze Hiroba in conjunction with the cherry blossom viewing season, with kitchen car stalls and booths set up by organizations and businesses in the ward.
