Floating lanterns with wishes and enjoying the summer night

Noryo no Yuube” is an event held at the Chidorigafuchi boatyard to enjoy summer evenings. This is a historic event that started in 1958 to heal the hearts of people devastated by the postwar period. Around sunset, about 80 boats from the ward-run Chidorigafuchi boatyard head to Chidorigafuchi. The lights of as many as 2,000 lanterns filled with people’s wishes and hopes shimmer on the surface of the water of the boats, creating a fantastic atmosphere unlike the daytime face of the central office district. There are three ways to participate in the event: the “On-board Lantern Giving” (by lottery), in which participants who come to the event on the day of the event will board a boat and float lanterns from the water; the “Message Lantern Giving” (online application), in which participants who cannot come to the event will choose a lantern from three different messages and the Chiyoda City Tourism Association will float it during the event; and the “Original Lantern Giving” in which participants will write their wishes and messages on the lanterns on the day of the event. The “Original Giving Lanterns” service allows visitors to write their wishes and messages on the lanterns on the day of the event (applications for both services will begin on June 20). Enjoy the summer evening at Chidorigafuchi at the event site or at a distance.
