Exhibition of seven spring flowers

Holding period

2022.12.24 〜 2023.01.07

Exhibit of “Nanakusa Baskets” made of baskets of the seven spring flowers

The seven herbs of spring have been eaten as the seven herbs porridge on January 7 at the beginning of the year. The seven herbs – Japanese parsley, nazuna, gogogyo, hakobera, hottoke-zasa, suzuna, and suzushiro – are all nutritious and are said to ward off evil spirits because they bloom in early spring.

Every year, Mukojima Hyakkaen makes “Nanakusa Baskets” by planting the seven spring flowers in baskets, which are also presented to the Imperial Family. The event will feature exhibits related to the seven spring flowers, including the “Dedicated Seven Herb Basket,” a “Jumbo Seven Herb Basket” measuring approximately 50 cm in diameter and 1 m high, and “Seven Spring Vegetables Planted Locally” (the Dedicated Seven Herb Basket will be on display from January 4 (Wed) to 7 (Sat), 2023).
