The 50th Nihonbashi/Kyobashi Festival – Oedo Kasshiki Parade

Holding period

2023.10.29

Nihonbashi, the starting point of the Five Routes from Edo to the rest of Japan, was also the end point of the road from all over the country. In 1972, a parade with a drum and fife corps, stuffed toys, and a daimyo’s procession was held in Nihonbashi to commemorate the completion of national roads, including streetlights. Since then, the Nihonbashi Nikkyo Festival, which has been held every October as a supporting project of the Chuo City Tourism and Commerce Festival, has been held many times, with this year marking its 50th anniversary, and is now an annual festival that attracts traditional festivals and dances from all over Japan.

In addition to the “Oedo Kasshiki Parade,” in which approximately 2,000 people fill Chuo-dori Avenue in Nihonbashi, the starting point of the Five Streets, the festival will also feature the “Provincial Orai Market,” which will bring together specialty products from all over Japan.
