Dedicated to the gods to pray for a good harvest and prosperity of descendants
The “Tasuri” is an event held during the Chinese New Year to pray for a bountiful harvest and prosperity of the offspring of the year. In Itabashi Ward, “Tasuri at Tokumaru Kitano Shrine” and “Tasuri at Akatsuka Suwa Shrine” are designated as national important intangible folk cultural assets. In the “Tasobi” ceremony at Tokumaru Kitano Shrine, the participants sow seeds in all directions to the beat of the taiko drum and words chanted in time; place Saotome (maiden maidens), played by children, on the taiko drum one by one to pray for the maturation of the seedlings, the growth of their children, and the prosperity of their descendants; and finally, pile all the tools for the tasobi ceremony on the taiko drum and join hands together to pray for a bountiful harvest. Finally, the “Inamurazumi” is performed to pray for a good harvest by piling up all the tools of rice field games on top of the taiko, and everyone joins hands to pray. Let’s appreciate the performance with these meanings in mind.
