Ueno Onshi Park, cherry blossom season

Holding period

Mid-March to early April 2022

Selected as one of the “100 Best Cherry Blossom Viewing Spots! Visit one of the best cherry blossom viewing spots in Tokyo!

Although there will be no booths this year, the cherry blossoms are at their best in Ueno Park. The “Ueno Park” area, which stretches from in front of the Park Exit of Ueno Station to the west side of Nightingale Station, is home to approximately 1,000 cherry trees, making it one of Tokyo’s major cherry blossom viewing spots. During the cherry blossom viewing season, nearly 3.3 million visitors come to the park, making it a popular spot on TV and in newspapers. The rows of cherry trees are decorated with Bonbori (paper lanterns), which add to the atmosphere.
At Hakamakoshi Hiroba (see photo), “takabari chochin,” lanterns that are attached to the end of a pole and held high, are displayed and used as photo spots. There are three types of cherry trees: “Okanzakura,” which blooms in mid-March; “Somei Yoshino,” which blooms from late March to early April (about 800 trees in total), and “Ichiyo,” which blooms in mid-April. Visitors can fully enjoy the cherry blossoms for about two months. Be sure to visit during the full bloom season to see the cherry blossoms in full bloom.
