Haneda Festival (held at the Tokyo International Airport on May 15)

Holding period

2022.07.30 〜 2022.07.31

Attention is drawn to the mikoshi carried in a way unique to Haneda.

The Haneda Festival is a summer festival of Haneda Shrine, the guardian deity of Haneda. A must-see is the portable shrine, which is carried in a unique way called yokota. The right person jumps up and the left person crouches down, and this is repeated alternately. It is said to imitate a ship swaying in the waves, and is very dynamic and heroic. It is said to be unique to Haneda, which flourished as a fishing town in the old days. The portable shrine is carried by 3,000 people alone and attracts more than 30,000 spectators. This year, the scale of the festival has been scaled down and a parade of carts will be held. For details, please check the official website and FaceBook.
