The Spring Festival (Chinese New Year) is the most important holiday of the year in Asia. Billions of people in China, the home of the panda, and elsewhere celebrate the coming of the New Year with family and fair-like gourmet festivals throughout the region. Although the date of the Chinese New Year is different each year due to the lunar calendar, we are fortunate that the dates of the 2024 Chinese New Year coincide perfectly with the Japanese national holiday weekend.

Shanshan, a giant panda born in Ueno, bid a tearful farewell on February 21, 2023 and is now living in Sichuan, China. Photographer Takahiro Gao, who is now so famous in China that no one knows him and is well-known for the Mid-Autumn Festival, went to Sichuan to photograph the cute and energetic Shanshan, who was finally released to the public.
In the previous Chinese New Year Festival, we all saw Shanshan off together as “Thank you Shanshan. This year’s Chinese New Year Festival will be a “Welcome Back Shanshan” event, and we plan to provide a lot of energetic Sichuan Shanshan as well as commemorative souvenirs (postcards, etc.).
