Tanaka Sotoba WORKS is a company that has been carrying on the traditional industry of making sotoba for over 300 years in Hinode-cho, Nishitama-gun, where good quality fir trees were once produced. We manufacture sotoba, goreki, and gomagi in-house, sell them directly, and ship them nationwide.
From 2022, we have launched a new brand, Momi 100, utilizing the technology we have cultivated over the years. The brand concept of Momi 100, which was established with the aim of creating a new 100 years, is to “give form to the active ingredients of the fir tree and propose products that are useful in daily life. Momi is an evergreen coniferous tree belonging to the fir family of the Pinaceae family. It is a wood with excellent deodorizing/anti-insect/anti-oxidant, humidity control, micro-scent, and sacred/aesthetic qualities. Tanaka Sotoba WORKS makes household and other products using Canadian and other firs carefully selected for their products. Items with sophisticated designs and reliable quality are available at the official online store. Their highly functional rice pans and cutting boards are popular as products that bring the warmth of wood to water areas that tend to be inorganic.

History

Tanaka Sotoba WORKS is a stupa manufacturing and sales company originally founded in 1913 as Tanaka Chuichi Stupa Shop Ltd. Currently, the company is headed by the fourth generation, Kota Tanaka. In Hinode-cho, Nishitama-gun, which accounts for more than 60% of the nation’s shipments of sotoba, the company continues to produce Hinode brand products utilizing high-quality fir trees while maintaining the traditional manufacturing process. The company is trusted by many temples and shrines for its technology backed by tradition.
